Leningrad Cowboys About
This Finnish rock band was founded in 1986 as a joke by movie director Aki Kaurismäki and musicians Sakke Järvenpää and Mato Valtonen. The name tweaked the declining power of the Soviet Union, and the band was assembled for Kaurismäki’s film Leningrad Cowboys Go America. After the film was released, the band started to tour for real. On stage, they are known for their outlandish hairstyles and pointy shoes.
