Joanna Brouk About
One of the most underrated and fascinating Ambient and New Age composers has to be Joanna Brouk (1949-2017). Although her cassette releases received little to no recognition in the mainstream, she has obtained a cult following. Studying under Terry Riley and Robert Ashley and receiving degrees in electronic music, she first started her career with self-released cassettes. Her music was part of the burgeoning New Age music with an ambient twist. She included flute music to Dolphin Noises in many of her releases. She stopped recording music in 1986 and decided to take up a domestic life. 30 years later a compilation of her music was released by Numero Group called Hearing Music, which revitalized interest in her music. Just a year later, she died in 2017 at 68 years old.
